Welcome to the Department of Peace Studies (DPS) and the Religion, Culture, and Peace Laboratory (RCP Lab)
We welcome Visiting Research Scholars to conduct independent research on religion, culture, peace, or a combination thereof.
Please register formally in our Independent Peace Research Certificate Program. As of this writing, it costs around US$1,000.00 flat fee (not exact fee; subject to change) for one academic year or any fraction thereof, payable directly to the Finance Office of the university. Our academic year starts from mid-August to early May. Please contact our Chair for the official application process. With this formal registration, you will get an admission letter from the university with which you can apply for an Education Visa. Immigration regulations for education visa change frequently. Please check official Thai immigration regulations regularly.
You can conduct your research up to one academic year or any fraction thereof. You will have a supervisor. You will have to submit a proper research proposal, present it before a committee, as well as present your final report before a committee. Your research output must be published in any form: as a journal article, as a monograph, or as an article in conference proceedings, acknowledging your visiting scholarship with us.
If you don’t register in the Independent Peace Research Program, you are welcome to be our Guest, coming with a tourist visa. But you will not have any formal relationship with our Department, Lab, College, or University, for which reason no assistance will be provided to you, such as a letter for your project proposal application, endorsement of your grants application, visa application endorsement letter, a statement that you conduct research with us, and the like.
If needed, we will be glad to refer you to 1) simultaneous interpreters who speak both English and Thai and 2) vehicles and drivers who speak both English and Thai for your day trips for your research. We could also help you search for someone who could do simultaneous interpreting in other languages, such as Karen and others. For interpreters, there is a flat fees per day or any fraction thereof: not counting pennies (like paying only 10 minutes interpreting work, while the interpreter travels with you for a whole day). Transportation fees depends on number of hours, distance, and so on. We only give you friendly referrals. You pay them directly.
