Peacebuilding Programs

Programs

The Department of Peacebuilding is under the Faculty of Humanities and Communication Arts at Payap University, Thailand. The department offers three academic programs. These include the following:

1) Four-year PhD in Peacebuilding. The program includes three semesters of coursework, one semester of examination and dissertation proposal preparation, and four semesters of dissertation.

2) Two year “dissertation only” PhD program in Peacebuilding. This program is for studentswho have already completed a two year Master’s program in Peace Studies.

3) One year graduate certificate program. This is a coursework only program for professionals experienced in peacebuilding, and who hold a Bachelor’s degree.

In addition to these programs, The IRCP has hosted many different events in peace studies, some on campus in Chiang Mai and others in locations around Thailand and Southeast Asia. Please contact us for further details.

4 Yr. PhD

General Information

Students will enroll in three semesters (18 months) of intense study of concepts in social theory, philosophy and world religions as a foundation for fieldwork or research exploring conflicts, world trouble spots, and methodologies for working to transform conflict into peace. The academic year is two semesters and runs from September through May. The language of instruction is English. The dissertation may be written in either English or Thai.

3. Begin writing dissertation

PB 992 Dissertation (Begin writing dissertation)

PB 992 Dissertation (Write, Submit, and Defend)

Grading & Examination

In order to be qualified for the qualifying exam, the student must earn at least 3.25 GPA.

There will be 3 written examinations followed by an oral examination. The written examinations will cover the following subjects: (i) Peacebuilding, (ii) religiousness/spirituality/dialogue, (iii) area of concentration. The oral examination will cover all the above subjects.

2 Yr. PhD

General Information

This is a research only PhD, in which students with an equivalent masters in peace studies perform research in their field and complete a dissertation. The language of instruction is English. The dissertation may be written in either English or Thai.
