Successes<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a3a2454 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a3a2454\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div><span style=\"letter-spacing: normal;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div><ul><li style=\"font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; text-align: start;\"><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">Associate Proffessor\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">Somboon Panyakom and Emeritus Lecturer James\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">Langteau of the Peace Studies Dept.\u00a0 recently published a paper with the Asia Missions Association titled\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.asiamissions.net\/gods-calling-to-myanmar-journey-into-conflict-zones-and-lo-i-am-with-you-always-even-unto-the-end-of-the-world\/\">&#8220;<\/a><\/span><span style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.asiamissions.net\/gods-calling-to-myanmar-journey-into-conflict-zones-and-lo-i-am-with-you-always-even-unto-the-end-of-the-world\/\">GOD\u2019S CALLING TO MYANMAR: JOURNEY INTO CONFLICT ZONES \u201cAnd lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.<\/a><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; text-align: start;\">Dr. Tony Waters and five of the Dept. of Peace Studies students recently attended the 1st annual meeting of the Dept. of Anthropology and Ethnology meeting at Yunnan University in Kunming, China.\u00a0 The six papers presented discussed a wide-range of subjects including education in peace, peace philosophies, history, NGO politics, and other subjects.<\/li><li style=\"font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; text-align: start;\">A new academic year at IRCP started in June 2019. We were very happy to bring in five new PhD students which brings our total to 15 students. Two of them this year moved into the fourth year, with a successful dissertation proposal in June, 2019. Five more students took their qualifying exams in August 2019, and are continuing to get dissertation proposals approved in early 2020.<\/li><li style=\"font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; text-align: start;\">PhD Student Hayso Thako and his colleagues Su-An Oh and Melanie Walker published \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.academia.edu\/41020964\/Karen_Education_and_Boundary-Making_at_the_Thai-Burmese_Borderland\">Karen Education and Boundary Making at the Thai-Burmese Border<\/a>\u201d in the journal\u00a0<em style=\"font-size: 20px; text-align: start;\">Borderlands<\/em>.<\/li><li style=\"font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; text-align: start;\">PhD student Mon Mon Myat\u2019s new publication about Aung San Suu Kyi, \u201c<a style=\"font-size: 20px;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41599-019-0258-1\">Is Politics Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s Vocation?<\/a>\u201d in Palgrave Communications from the UK.<a style=\"font-size: 20px;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41599-019-0258-1\">\u00a0https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41599-019-0258-1<\/a>.\u00a0 Another version of this article has been published in\u00a0<em style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Social Transformations<\/em>.<\/li><li style=\"font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; text-align: start;\">PhD student Hayso Thako and his colleague Su-An Oh also published a paper \u201c<a style=\"font-size: 20px;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iseas.edu.sg\/images\/pdf\/ISEAS_Perspective_2019_37.pdf\">Education; A Micro-theater of Ethnic Politics and the Peace Process in Myanmar<\/a>\u00a0\u201d in ISEAS Perspectives from Singapore.<\/li><li style=\"font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; text-align: start;\">Dr. Mary Wong from California, and PhD students Min Htun, Moe Thida Lwin, and Qamaruzzaman Amir were at Mandalay University conducting workshops for peace educators, January 20-24, 2020.<\/li><li style=\"font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; text-align: start;\">PhD Student Moe Thida Lwin published her paper \u201c<a style=\"font-size: 20px;\" href=\"http:\/\/jos.hueuni.edu.vn\/index.php\/HUJOS-ED\/article\/view\/4855?fbclid=IwAR3fBOzb8xBXQQYPoab12sBkM2wttIUtjILNZExzMjcEwdKlqEtriH6vvnQ\">The Labour Market in Mae Sot, 1990-2017 and Thailand\u2019s New Economic Zone Policy<\/a>\u201d in Hue University Journal of Science, 2019. The publication is from her MBA thesis at Payap University. Moe Thida has since returned to Payap University as a PhD in Peacebuilding student.<\/li><li style=\"font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; text-align: start;\">PhD student Hayso Thako and his colleagues Subin Sara Yeo, and Terese Gagnon recently published and article \u201cSchooling for a Stateless Nation: The Predicament of Education without Consensus for Karen Refugees on the Thailand-Myanmar Border\u201d in the\u00a0<em style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Asian Journal of Peacebuilding<\/em>.\u00a0 This collaboration emerged as all three of them were working on dissertation projects in Mae Sot.\u00a0 Sara is from Seoul National University, Korea, and Terese from Syracuse University, New York.\u00a0 This is a fantastic peace of collaborative work for early career scholars, and we look forward to hearing much more in the future.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Interested in applying for 1) the non-degree certificate program or 2) the Ph.D. degree in Peace Studies at Payap University?
